Copaiba vs CBD Oil

Cannabidiol, or CBD oil, has recently been gaining a lot of attention as an alternative, non-pharmacologic method of relieving pain.

The legality of CBD oil usage is still controversial, as it is derived from the cannabis (marijuana) or hemp plants, both of which produce THC.  CBD oil is not supposed to contain any discernable amount of THC to be legally marketable; however, independent analytic testing of various CBD oils on the market showed many of the products in the market to contain significant levels of THC and varied greatly in their actual CBD content.  Therefore, it is possible to get a psychoactive effect and positive drug test from a supposedly safe and legal product that is currently poorly regulated.

But did you know there is another cannabinoid compound that does not come from cannabis or hemp?

It’s called Copaiba, and it comes from the Copaifera plant, which does not produce THC.

And here’s how it works:

  • There are two receptors in our cells that Cannabinoids can bind to.
    • The first, CB1, is what THC binds to and causes psychotropic effects.
    • The second, CB2, are found mostly in immune tissues and seem to reduce inflammation and pain. These receptors are what both CBD oil and Copaiba bind to.
      • Copaiba directly binds with these receptors, while CBD interacts only indirectly.

To summarize, Copaiba binds directly to the same receptors that CBD oil effects, therefore having the same pain-relieving effect, with no risk of exposure to THC.

If you are looking for a non-pharmacologic alternative to pain medication, Copaiba may be of interest to you.  Talk to the staff at Body Logic about how to get a bottle of Copaiba Essential Oil from DoTerra.
