Pre Pregnancy

It’s no surprise that stress can affect health in many ways. One of the reasons chiropractic may be beneficial during pre pregnancy is that it releases those feel-good endorphins and reduces stress.

We’ve had several patients struggling with fertility issues. Through the combination of chiropractic care and nutrition, we’ve seen some successes.

Pregnancy

Pregnant woman holding bellyDuring pregnancy, there are so many hormone fluctuations, with one of those being relaxin, which prepares the body to have the pelvis expand and the ligaments loosen to allow the baby to pass through. If you’re out of alignment and have restricted motion, that can lead to more painful labor and delivery.

The good news is that regular chiropractic adjustments throughout your pregnancy can help keep your pelvis, spine, and hips properly aligned and your nerves functioning optimally. Your nerves regulate contractions and dilate the cervix during labor and delivery. So if you have optimal nerve health, you may enjoy faster labor and easier delivery, with less pain.

Chiropractic care can also help with

  • Back and hip pain
  • Headaches
  • Sciatic pain
  • Swelling

Postpartum Benefits

Getting adjusted postpartum can be beneficial for a quicker recovery from the changes of having the baby. Getting adjustments is beneficial, also because hormone relaxin is still circulating. After pregnancy, we want to ensure that the ligaments tighten back up and that proper biomechanics are restored.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start coming in for care?

Any time before or during pregnancy can be beneficial.

How do you adjust pregnant women?

Our practice features a few tables with abdominal dropouts, where we can lower the abdominal piece to accommodate a large belly. Many pregnant women appreciate that they can lie on their bellies until they deliver.

Can you help with ‘morning sickness’?

Yes, we have suggestions such as ensuring moms get enough protein, and if they have aversions to certain foods, we can come up with alternatives.

How often do I need to come in during pregnancy?

During the first 2-3 trimesters, we typically see a patient every 2-3 weeks. In the third trimester, we have patients come in at least weekly, because that’s when the baby grows exponentially, and the changes and challenges for Mom can become more overwhelming.
